Daisen, Yokote, and Yuzawa offer tourist attractions such as Mt. Ontake, Atago Shrine, and Mt. Kinpusan; sightseeing events such as the Nishimonouchi Bon Odori dance, Inukkomatsuri, and Kiku Festival; and local delicacies such as Inaniwa udon, Iburi gako, and Kiritanpo.
Yokote City is the central city located in the southern part of Akita Prefecture and has the second largest population in the prefecture. Located in the center of the Yokote Basin, the Yokote River from the Ou Mountains in the east flows through the city, and the city is an important transportation hub with National Route 13 and Yuzawa-Yokote Road from north to south and National Route 107 and Akita Expressway from east to west.
The first tourist attraction in Yokote City is the Yokote Castle Observatory, a 21.5-meter-high castle tower. The first and second floors are local materials exhibition rooms where armor and swords used in the Boshin War and other battles are displayed, and the third floor is an observation deck. The Yokote River flows on the west side, and Mt. Chokai, also known as Akita Fuji, can be seen in the distance.
The Kamakura-kan is a rare sightseeing spot where visitors can experience the snowy kamakura throughout the year. Akita Furusato Mura is a convenient tourist facility where visitors can learn all about Akita Prefecture.
Taki no Sawawa and Sanjusan Kannon are located in the mountains to the east of the city center, where a stone monument marked "Taki no Sawawa Entrance" stands. From here, walking slowly with sunlight streaming through the trees and listening to birdsong, a white thread-like waterfall appears before your eyes. The waterfall is about 5 meters high and 10 meters wide, and it is a refreshing sight to see during a stroll.
Yuzawa City is located in the southern part of Akita Prefecture and has long developed as the southern gateway to Akita. It is said to be the birthplace of Ono no Komachi, a representative of Akita beauty and the origin of the Akita Komachi rice and Akita Shinkansen Komachi.
Yunohara no Ichirizuka was built on the Honjo-Koan Kaido, a Waki-kaido road that crosses the Hashu Kaido and runs from the Sea of Japan side to the Pacific Ocean side. It is said that in the past, mounds were built on both sides of the road, facing each other. The 400-year-old zelkova tree is impressive, and was designated as a Yuzawa City cultural asset in 1964. In addition, there is also a village mound in Atago-cho.
The World Dahlia Garden is a sight worth seeing in Yuzawa City. Located just before the Yamadani Tunnel on the border between Yuzawa City and the Inagawa area, the 80-area site is home to 2,000 dahlia plants of about 230 varieties from around the world. The abundance of these dahlias is a big hit with tourists, and the nature observation forest that includes the sightseeing chestnut orchard and dahlia garden is called Donguri Hiroba (Acorn Square).
This is a beautiful 60-meter-long V-shaped gorge formed by the rapid flow of the Minase River. It is about 8 km long and is included in Kurikoma National Park.
