This is a beautiful 60-meter-long V-shaped gorge formed by the rapid flow of the Minase River. It is about 8 km long and is included in Kurikoma National Park.
The valley is home to countless waterfalls, both large and small, including Fudo Falls and Yakushi Falls. Visitors can enjoy the fresh greenery in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and large “shigakko” icicles that descend into the gorge in winter.
There is also a well-maintained promenade that leads down a rocky stairway, offering beautiful scenery in each of the four seasons.
Koankyo Hot Springs are located upstream of the Koankyo Gorge and are a popular tourist attraction.
There is also a large fumarole that emits steam as high as 98 degrees from between the rocks of the cliffs like the breath of the earth, and is one of the highlights of the Koankyo Gorge. The contrast between the gorge with its autumn leaves and the white steam of the fountain is breathtaking.
It is also known as a famous spot for viewing the autumn leaves, and is conveniently accessible by public transportation. There are many restaurants serving Inaniwa udon in the vicinity.
There are also beautiful scenic spots such as Mt. Tokoton and Mt. Kurikoma, which offer seasonal changes. There are also historical buildings in the area, so you can feel the history of the area.
